The North American Prospects Hockey League (PHL) season resumes this week, with its second event of the year taking place from October 21-24 in San Jose, California. The event will be hosted by the San Jose Jr. Sharks, a member team in the PHL with teams in all three age divisions in the PHL. All Midget Major (18U), Midget Minor (16U) and Western Bantam Major (14U) programs will compete at the event.
The event will be held at Sharks Ice-San Jose, which is the largest ice skating facility in California and the official training facility of the San Jose Sharks of the NHL. With 170,000 sq. feet and four sheets of ice, Sharks Ice hosts hundreds of events annually. This will be the third season in a row that the PHL has held an event at the facility.
“We are excited to be returning to San Jose for a third straight year,” said PHL commissioner and director Denny Scanlon. “After a very successful start to the season, this week’s action should be fun to watch for all the players, fans and scouts in attendance. Sharks Ice is great facility and we know their staff will run a first-class event.”
All PHL teams have played five league games to date, all coming last month at the NAHL Showcase in Blaine, Minnesota. The Lansing Capitals, led by goaltender and Poinstreak Peak Performer Connor Webb, led the PHL’s 18U division with a perfect 5-0-0 record heading into San Jose. In the 16U division, the host San Jose Jr. Sharks and Pointstreak Peak Performer Matthew Woodley lead the division, also with a 5-0-0 record. In the 14U Division, Pursuit of Excellence is also undefeated at 5-0-0.
