USHL Honors - Week Four

Press Release

The United States Hockey League today announced the weekly award winners for the fourth week of the 2011-12 USHL regular season.

Congratulations to forward Gerald Mayhew of the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders, named CCM Offensive Player of the Week; defenseman Greg Amlong of the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders, selected as CCM Defensive Player of the Week; and Stephon Williams of the Sioux Falls Stampede, who earned honors as the Reebok USHL Goaltender of the Week.

Mayhew scored five points (4g, 1a) as the RoughRiders earned five of six points in the standings during a three-game road trip. He netted the first goal of the game and then assisted on the game-winner in Friday’s 4-2 win against Chicago. The forward also finished the contest with a game high plus-four rating. Mayhew then recorded a hat trick (3g) in Saturday’s 5-2 victory over Green Bay and again finished with the game’s best plus/minus rating (+3). The 18-year-old from Wyandotte, Michigan currently leads the RoughRiders with five goals this season.

Amlong recorded three points (2g, 1a) during the successful road trip for the RoughRiders. He assisted on his team’s first goal of the game and then scored a shorthanded tally late in the third period to send Thursday’s game to overtime against Youngstown. The next evening, Amlong scored another shorthanded goal when he fired a puck from 150 feet into the empty net to secure a 4-2 win over Chicago. The 19-year-old from O’Fallon, Missouri also played a key role in helping the RoughRiders successfully kill off all 15 opponent power plays during the three-game stretch.

Williams was in net for both Sioux Falls victories during the weekend, posting a combined 1.00 goals-against-average and a .969 save percentage. He stopped 35 shots in the 2-1 win vs. Lincoln on Friday and then followed up with a 27-save performance in the 4-1 victory over Fargo on Saturday. The second-year netminder from Fairbanks, Alaska is currently second among all USHL goaltenders with a .938 SV% this season. The 18-year-old made his debut in the USHL last season and won 20 games for the Stampede.
