Spirit’s Brandon Saad Named CHL Player of the Week

Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that Brandon Saad of the Saginaw Spirit is the CHL Player of the Week for the week ending October 23.  Saad scored six goals and added four assists for 10 points in three games with a plus-minus rating of plus-2.

Saad led the Spirit to three straight road wins beginning last Thursday night where he recorded his first career five-point game as part of a 5-2 win over the Brampton Battalion.  In the win Saad scored a career-best four goals including a natural hat-trick and added one assist as first star of the game.  On Saturday night he earned second star honours scoring a goal as part of a 9-1 win over the Peterborough Petes before claiming first star honours on Sunday night closing out his week with a goal and a career-best three assists for four points in a 7-6 win over the Oshawa Generals.

Saad, who will celebrate his 19th birthday on October 27, is from Gibsonia, Pennsylvania.  The second year forward was selected 43rd overall in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft by the Chicago Blackhawks and played two NHL games this season before returning to the Spirit where he has recorded 13 points in five games.

Also considered for the award this week was Danick Gauthier of the Saint John Sea Dogs and Brendan Gallagher of the Vancouver Giants.  Gauthier scored six goals in three games while Gallagher picked up seven points in three games scoring three goals and four assists.
