Wolves Affiliate with the Sudbury Nickel Barons

Press Release

The Sudbury Wolves are proud to announce that they have reached an affiliation agreement with the SUDBURY NICKEL BARONS of the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League.

In 2012, the team was purchased by a local businessman and former hockey player MIKE MOONEY who renamed the club as the Sudbury Nickel Barons. The change in ownership had a positive impact in reestablishing a working agreement with the local Jr. A team that had undergone a number of ownership, management and coaching changes over the past few years.

“Working with the Sudbury Wolves as their primary affiliate gives the Nickel Barons more credibility as a Jr. A hockey club,” stated Nickel Barons Owner Mike Mooney. “We are honoured and look forward to working with the Wolves to help develop locally drafted players and others take the next step in their hockey journey.”

A pair of local Sudbury Wolves draft picks suited up for the Nickel Barons last season including goaltender MICHAEL MUZYKA and forward DYLAN CALLAGHAN.

“The Sudbury Wolves are pleased to welcome the Sudbury Nickel Barons Jr. A team as our official affiliate team for the 2013-14 season” notes Wolves’ President and GM Blaine Smith. “Mike Mooney and his family have been big supporters of the Sudbury Wolves over the years and we look forward to working with GM Oscar Clouthier and Head Coach Trevor Blanchard – both of which are Sudbury Wolves alumni. It will be great to give local players playing on the Nickel Barons an opportunity to experience OHL hockey as call-ups to the Wolves.”
