Press Release
KENNEWICK, WA – Tri-City Americans’ Governor/General
Manager Bob Tory announced today that the team has acquired 19-year-old
defenseman Jeff Hubic from the Kootenay Ice in exchange for a 7th round
pick in the 2014 Bantam Draft.
Hubic, a 6’3 182-pound defenseman from Regina, Saskatchewan, is in
the middle of his third full WHL season, all of which spent as a member
of the Kootenay Ice. Originally a 4th Round (79th overall) pick by the
Ice in the 2009 WHL Bantam Draft, Hubic made his WHL debut on February
5, 2011 against Vancouver, then joined the Ice full-time for the 2011-12
season. Appearing in 153 career WHL games, Hubic has totaled 2 goals,
14 points and 188 penalty minutes. Hubic comes to Tri-City with 5
assists, 6 points and a plus-5 rating, all of which either match or
exceeded his previous career bests.
“With the injuries to (Mitch) Topping and (Wil) Tomchuk, and with
Michal (Plutnar) and Parker (Wotherspoon) away for tournaments before
and after the Winter Break, we needed to address a depth issue on our
blueline,” explained Tory. “Jeff is an experienced defenseman, who will
add size to our group. We look forward to him joining our team this
weekend.”
