Press Release
Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League in association with the
Ontario Hockey League and the London Knights Hockey Club today announced
that defenceman Nikita Zadorov will compete for Team Russia in the 2013
SUBWAY® Super Series on Thursday November 21 in Oshawa.
The 18-year-old Zadorov was a first round selection of the Buffalo Sabres, 16th
overall in the 2013 NHL Draft, and played in seven NHL games this
season scoring one goal before being returned to the Knights on
Wednesday. Last season Zadorov scored six goals and 19 assists for 25
points in 63 games with the OHL Champion Knights. He was a member of
Team Russia in the 2012 SUBWAY® Super Series game played in Guelph
helping his club defeat Team OHL for the first time in 10 years by a 2-1
score.
Zadorov becomes the fourth OHL player to be named to the Team Russia
roster joining Nikolay Goldobin of the Sarnia Sting and Sergey
Tolchinsky of the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds who will compete in both
games. Defenceman Aleksandar Mikulovich of the Niagara IceDogs will be
in the lineup for the Game 3 of the series in Oshawa only.
With Zadorov, the Knights will be sending a total of six players to
the SUBWAY® Super Series contests including forwards Josh Anderson, Max
Domi, and Bo Horvat who will compete for Team OHL in both games, while
forwards Ryan Rupert and Chris Tierney will only compete in Game 4 of
the series in Sudbury on Monday.
In 10 years of competition against the Russian National Junior Team,
the OHL has a record of 19-1 in this series following a 2-1 loss last
season in Guelph, and a 2-1 victory in Sarnia.
