Vees Captain Commits to Minnesota-Mankato

PENTICTON, BCThe Penticton Vees Jr. ‘A’ Hockey Club is pleased to announce Captain Brad McClure (93) has committed to Minnesota State University, Mankato for the 2014-15 season.

McClure is the thirteenth player on the Vees roster to secure an NCAA scholarship and joins teammate Max Coatta (94) as future Mavericks.

President, General Manager and Head Coach Fred Harbinson on his Captain’s commitment, “Brad has been an outstanding Captain for us and an offensive threat every time he touches the ice; he will be great addition for the Mavericks. ”

McClure, 20, leads the Vees in scoring with a team best 17 goals and 33 points in 25 games; fourth overall in the BCHL in goal-scoring and points. The right-winger recently was on a tear, picking up six goals and 12 points in his last eight games. Last season the Stratford, Ontario product collected 27 goals and 46 points in 53 games, which was fifth best amongst Vees scorers. In 78 regular season games, McClure has amassed 44 goals and 79 points to go along with 34 penalty-minutes.

Minnesota State, Mankato (MSU) has been playing hockey at the Division l level since 1996-1997, as a member of the Western Collegiate Hockey Conference (WCHA). The Mavericks have been playing varsity hockey at the Division ll or Division lll level since 1960. In 2012-2013, first year head coach Mike Hastings guided the Mavericks to a 24-14-3 record in the WHCA, and was named the WCHA Coach of the Year.  Former Vees currently playing at MSU include, Bryce Gervais, Sean Flanagan and Nic Buchanan.
