Attack's Bannister to Coach Ontario U16

Press Release

Toronto - The Ontario Under 17/16 Program Policy Committee is pleased to announce Drew Bannister as the Head Coach of Ontario’s 2015 Under 16 Canada Winter Games team. Drew is currently an Assistant coach with the Owen Sound Attack of the Ontario Hockey League.

"The committee is pleased that Drew has agreed to become the head coach of Ontario’s 2015 Under 16 Team that will be competing at the 2015 Canada Winter Games,” stated Under 17/16 Policy Committee Chairman Ted Baker. “It is always a difficult task to select one person to coach a team of this calibre given the number of qualified applicants, however, the committee agreed that Drew’s knowledge and leadership qualities made him the right choice to coach our Under 16 high performance athletes that will represent Ontario at the 2015 Canada Winter Games being held in Prince George, British Columbia.”

"It is with great pride and enthusiasm that I accept the head coaching position of Ontario’s Under 16 Canada Winter Games team,” stated Bannister.  “I am honoured the committee selected me and I look forward to leading our Under 16 team towards a gold medal performance at the 2015 Canada Winter Games.”

The Under 17/16 Policy Committee is also pleased to announce that they have selected Cyril Bollers and David Schlitt as assistant coaches of Ontario’s 2015 Canada Winter Games team. Mr. Bollers is an associate coach with the Markham Majors Minor Midget AAA team while Mr. Schlitt is the head coach of the Huron-Perth Lakers Minor Midget team.

The coaching staff together with Director of Operations Patrick Sweeney will be attending regional Under 15 camps throughout the Province during the months of April and May 2014.  Further evaluations of these athletes will take place with their minor midget club teams throughout the fall of 2014 with the announcement of the final team roster scheduled for early January 2015.
