Jarry Vaughn WHL goalie of the month

Press Release

CALGARY, AB – The Western Hockey League announced today that Tristan Jarry of the Edmonton Oil Kings has been named the VAUGHN WHL Goaltender of the Month for February, 2014.  It’s the second time this season that Jarry has been named VAUGHN WHL Goaltender of the Month, having earned the honor for November as well.

The 18-year-old netminder appeared in 11 games during the month of February, posting a 7-1-2-0 record with one shutout while allowing 19 goals on 252 shots for a 1.77 goals-against average and a .925 save percentage in that span.  Jarry allowed two or fewer goals in eight of his 11 appearances, and posted a perfect 5-0-0-0 record on the road while allowing only five goals on 106 shots.  Jarry was chosen among the 3 Stars on two occasions during February.  He also set a new Oil Kings’ franchise record with his seventh shutout of the season on February 17th versus Lethbridge.

Jarry’s steady goaltending helped the Oil Kings remain at or near the top of the WHL’s Eastern Conference standings throughout February, and also helped them clinch a playoff berth for a fourth consecutive season.

Jarry, a product of Delta, B.C., is in his third season in the WHL with the Edmonton Oil Kings.  He has appeared in 98 career regular-season games for the Oil Kings, posting a 65-22-3-1 record with 13 shutouts, a 2.15 goals-against average and a .917 save percentage.  The 6’2”, 180-lb netminder was chosen in the second round, 44th overall, by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the 2013 NHL Draft.

His accomplishments make Tristan Jarry a deserving choice as the VAUGHN WHL Goaltender of the Month for February.
