RoughRiders forward commits to Ferris State University

 Cedar Rapids RoughRiders forward Mitch Maloney has committed to play collegiate hockey at Ferris State University following his USHL career.

Since joining the RoughRiders in late December, the 19-year-old has produced 14 points (7g, 7a) through 20 games this season.  After recording an assist on the game-winning goal in his USHL debut on December 27th, a 5-4 win against Des Moines, he netted his first USHL goal the following night in a loss to Waterloo.  Maloney scored six of his goals for the Riders during a nine-game stretch from January 17th to February 8th.  Cedar Rapids was 4-1-0 in games that he tallied a goal.

The Macomb, Michigan native had previously spent the last season and a half in the NAHL for Port Huron after playing his youth hockey for the Honeybaked AAA program in Michigan.

Four other current USHL players have committed to play hockey at Ferris State University – Tyler Dorantes (Green Bay Gamblers), Tyler Andrew (Indiana Ice), Austin Kosack (Indiana Ice), Drew Mayer (Tri-City Storm).

Ferris State University is located in Big Rapids, Michigan and a member of the WCHA.  The Bulldogs have been one of the top teams in college hockey this season with a roster that includes 16 USHL alumni; Scott Czarnowczan (Green Bay Gamblers), Kyle Schempp (Sioux Falls Stampede), Seth Adams (Des Moines Buccaneers), Jason Binkley (Tri-City Storm), Chad McDonald (Muskegon/Des Moines), Ryan Lowney (Youngstown Phantoms), Kenny Babinski (Omaha Lancers), T.J. Schlueter (Dubuque Fighting Saints), Justin DeMartino (Waterloo Black Hawks), Gerald Mayhew (Cedar Rapids RoughRiders), Simon Denis (Tri-City Storm), Dakota Klecha (Muskegon Lumberjacks), Dominic Panetta (Tri-City/Indiana), Travis White (Green Bay Gamblers), Charles Williams (Lincoln/Des Moines), and C.J. Motte (Waterloo Black Hawks).
