Steelers’ Thomas named RBC Player of the Month

Call it the RBC Hat Trick. For an unprecedented third consecutive month, Selkirk Steelers’ standout Parker Thomas has been named the RBC Player of the Month.

The Winnipeg product ended the regular season in strong fashion, reflected in seven goals and 20 points in 10 games. Recently, the 20-year-old forward was honoured as the MJHL MVP for this season.

The runners up are 18 year old forward Corey Haverstick of the Virden Oil Capitals and 18 year old forward Daniel Taillefer of the Steinbach Pistons.

Sher-Wood Hockey Defenseman of the Month

For the second consecutive month, Joel Messner of the Selkirk Steelers has been awarded the Sher-wood Hockey Defenseman of the Month. In addition to his strong blueline play, he showed off his offensive skills with two goals and 12 points in 10 games.

Messner, 19, who hails from Lorette, recently committed to University of Nebraska-Omaha.

The runners up are 18 year old Kevin Pochuk of the Virden Oil Capitals and 20 year old Channing Bresciani of the Winnipeg Blues).

MGEU Goaltender of the Month

Dauphin Kings clinched the Sher-wood Division pennant due in large part to excellent goaltending. The strong play of Jordan Piccolino has resulted in the King netminder named the MGEU Goaltender of the Month for February.

The 19-year-old posted a 4-2 record in February, highlited by a 1.50 GAA and .949 GAA.

The runners up are 18 year old Nathan Park of the Selkirk Steelers and 20 year old Braeden Ostepchuk of the Selkirk Steelers.

IBAM Rookie of the Month

Jake Dudar of Virden Oil Capitals has been awarded the IBAM Rookie of the Month for February. The 17-year-old from Winnipeg tallied 10 points (1-9) in 14 games for the Oil Caps.

The runners up are 18 year old forward Tyler Penner of the Steinbach Pistons and 16 year old forward Tyler Jeanson of the Portage Terriers.
