Steel defenseman commits to Ohio State University

Chicago Steel defenseman Victor Bjorkung has committed to play collegiate hockey beginning next season at Ohio State University.

Bjorkung has put up 16 points (4g, 12a) and a plus-two rating in 34 games for the Steel this season.  He established a USHL career high when he recorded a four-point game (1g, 3a) while also posting a plus-three rating in the 8-2 victory over the Muskegon Lumberjacks on February 15th.  The 20-year-old defenseman has produced eight of his points (2g, 6a) this season over his last seven games, helping the Steel to a 5-1-1 record over that span.

The Stockholm, Sweden native is playing in his second USHL season after making his debut in 2012-13 with the Fargo Force.  He was then acquired by the Sioux Falls Stampede mid-way through the season.  He recorded 22 points (6g, 16a) and a plus-12 rating in 60 combined games between the two clubs.

Six other players competing in the USHL this season will play college hockey at Ohio State University; Matt Weis (Green Bay Gamblers), Christian Lampasso (Lincoln Stars), Janik Moeser (Muskegon Lumberjacks), Dakota Joshua (Sioux Falls Stampede), John Wiitala (Waterloo Black Hawks), and Luke Stork (Youngstown Phantoms).

Ohio State is part of the newly-formed Big Ten Conference and features 15 USHL alumni on the roster this season; Darik Angeli (Tri-City/Chicago/Sioux City), Drew Brevig (Sioux Falls Stampede), Clark Cristofoli (Sioux Falls Stampede), Blake Doerring (Des Moines/Fargo), Ryan Dzingel (Lincoln Stars),Christian Frey (Dubuque/Tri-City), Anthony Greco (Des Moines/Waterloo), David Gust (Fargo Force), Matt Johnson (Tri-City/Waterloo), Alex Lippincott (Fargo Force), Tyler Lundey (Dubuque Fighting Saints), Max McCormick (Sioux City Musketeers), Al McLean (Omaha Lancers), Nick Oddo (Omaha/Cedar Rapids), Nick Schilkey (Green Bay Gamblers).
