Kings netminder Smith earns player of the week honours

Powell River Kings goaltender Jeff Smith has been named the BCHL Player of the Week for the week ending March 2, the league announced on Monday.

Smith played all three games for the Kings, finishing the week with a record of 2-1 as the team wrapped up the regular season. The rookie made 36 saves on 37 shots to backstop his team to a 2-1 double-overtime victory against Alberni Valley and was named 2nd star. He continued his solid week stopping 20 of 22 shots in a 3-2 win in Nanaimo. Finally, he made 30 stops on 32 attempts in a losing effort in a rematch against Alberni Valley.

The native of Maple Ridge, B.C. made 86 saves on 91 shots over the three games and finished with a save percentage of 0.945 and a goals-against average of 1.64.
