Omaha 16U forward Barr makes NCAA DI commitment

 The Omaha AAA Hockey Club, proud members of the North American Prospects Hockey League (NAPHL), are pleased to announce that 16U forward Van Barr has committed to play NCAA Division I Hockey at Western Michigan University starting in the fall of 2016.

Western Michigan is a member of the National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC).

Barr is a native of Kansas City, Missouri and is in his first season with the Omaha AAA Hockey Club. So far this year, the 5'11 175lb  Barr has amassed 54 goals and 61 assists for 115 points in 73 games overall for the Omaha AAA 16U team that is ranked #2 in the country.

In NAPHL league play, the 16-year-old has 28 goals and 19 assists for 47 points in 20 games for the Omaha team which went 19-0-1 in the regular season, finishing in 1st place and winning the 16U regular season crown.

Barr also played in the inaugural NAPHL 16U All-Star Game in December for Team Easton, where he also scored a goal in the game.

Barr was 5th on the team in playoff scoring with four points in five games as Omaha advanced to the NAPHL Championship game for the second straight season. Barr had the only Omaha goal in the Championship game.

Barr now becomes the fifth member of this years 16U team in Omaha to receive an NCAA Division 1 Hockey Scholarship joining Tarek Baker (Minnesota), August von Ungern-Sternberg (Brown), Matt Pulver (Air Force) and Wade Allison (Western Michigan).
