Vees Add Tonge & Harrington

Press Release

The Kingston KIMCO Voyageurs continue to work towards finalizing their roster and have added two more players, signing 1995 born local Alex Tonge and defenseman Dillon Harrington who also has local ties to the Kingston area.

Tonge was a 10th round pick of the Kingston Frontenacs this summer and is classified as pure goal scorer and worked extremely hard to edge out the other local 1995 born forwards Jay Mackie and Adam Moodie.

"This was the toughest decision we had to make thus far. These are three kids that played extremely hard for me and who i really like a lot and it sucks that i can only take one of them," said Head Coach Colin Birkas, who coached the 1995's last season in AAA.

It was a wave of emotions for Tonge Monday at practice, as he found out earlier in the day that the Vees were going to commit to him as the 1995 born forward, but then went out and separated his shoulder in a freak accident during practice, which just happens to be the first injury of his career.

"He got caught on a puck under his skate and just fell awkwardly and landed on his shoulder. It was really a freak accident, but he went down and had it looked at and the early indication is that its not too bad and he should be back by late September," said General Manager Denis Duchesne.

Harrington comes to the Vees after a couple seasons of prep hockey in the United States, but has ties to the Kingston area and is considered a local player, living just up the 401 along the St. Lawrence.

"Dillon really carries himself like a pro off the ice and he's everything you could ask for as far as attitude goes in a hockey player," said Assistant General Manager and Director of Hockey Operations Casey Torres.

"He came into camp without any fan fare and not much of a shot to make the team and he flat out won a job on this hockey club. The way he competes and battles on the ice is fantastic. He truly is a team first player and the exact type of personality we want in our dressing room and boy oh boy does he ever like to hit," said Torres.

"We probably need to reign it in a little bit and make sure he doesn't take himself out of position, but Vees fans are going to love the way this kid hits," finished Torres.
