Bombers Make A Deal With Summerside

Press Release

The Flin Flon Bombers have bolstered their offense today finalizing a trade with last season’s Royal Bank Cup runners up the Summerside Western Capitals.

The Bombers acquired 1993 born forward Justin Rasmussen and the CJHL playing rights to 1993 born defenseman Mackenzie Braid in exchange for future considerations.

In Rasmussen (Georgetown, ON) the team gets a skilled centre man with some size (6’1, 190 pounds) who put up 36 points (12g, 24a) in 35 games last year with the Capitals plus another 10 points (4g, 6a) in 13 playoff games.

“Justin is the big piece of this deal,” commented Head Coach and General Manager Mike Reagan.  “we feel with the acquisition of him he have two solid scoring lines, a 1A and 1B.”

Alongside last season’s RBC Cup team, Rasmussen was also a member of the 2011 Mississauga St. Michael’s Majors who were hosts and finalist of the CHL’s Mastercard Memorial Cup.

“Justin was a hot commodity this off season,” added Reagan.  “He had a choice between three teams in three different leagues vying for his attention, but he chose to come here.”

Braid (Mississauga, ON) split time last year between the Capitals and the OHL’s Sudbury Wolves, where the 6’1, 165 pounder had 3 assists with the Capitals to go along with 73 penalty minutes in 12 games.
Braid is currently attending Wilfrid Laurier University, but Reagan is hoping that he decides to play this season in Flin Flon.

Both players spent significant time in the OHL with Rasmussen playing in 80 career games over three seasons, all with Mississauga, and Braid playing 133 games with Barrie, Sault Ste. Marie and Sudbury.
