Press Release
The Winkler Flyers will have another familiar face behind the bench
this season as former Flyer defenseman Nick Fuher has been hired as an
Assistant Coach. Fuher will join Ken Pearson (Head Coach) and fellow
Assistant Coach Ernie Sutherland as the teams coaches.
Fuher played one season in Winkler during the 1998-1999 season before
moving on to the Lincoln Stars (USHL) the following year. The Grand
Forks, North Dakota native then went on to play four years for the North
Dakota Fighting Sioux (NCAA Div I). Fuher played three games with the
Utah Grizzlies of the American Hockey League before his pro career was
shortened due to injury.
He began his coaching career with the Lincoln Stars in the 2007-2008
season as an assistant. Fuher will replace Steve Mullin who stepped down
in order to spend more time with his family.
With the Flyers, Fuher recorded 10 goals and 45 assists for 55
points, received All-Rookie team and second team All-Star honors, was
the runner-up for Rookie of the Year and Defenseman of the Year.
The Flyers would like to welcome Nick back into the Flyers
Organization and would like to thank Steve and his family for their
commitment to the club over the past year.
