The Fairbanks Ice Dogs, proud members of the North American Hockey League (NAHL), are pleased to announce that goaltender Kevin Aldridge
has made a commitment to play NCAA Division I hockey for Lake Superior
State of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA).
Aldridge, 19, is coming off his first season playing in the NAHL.
Prior to coming to Fairbanks, the native of Beverly Hills, Michigan
played two seasons for the Little Caesars 16U team.
Aldridge (5’8/150) had a solid first season, posting a 19-9-1
record during the regular season with one shutout. At one point during
the season in November and December, Aldridge made 12 straight starts
because of an injury to the other Fairbanks goalie, Steve Perry.
Aldridge posted a 2.33 goals against average and a 91.5% save
percentage.
On November 19th he was honored as the West Division Star of the
Week as he started and won both games of a weekend road sweep in Corpus
Christi. His first career NAHL shutout came back on January 11th in a
4-0 win over the Janesville Jets.
“We are very proud of Kevin because this commitment is a result of a
lot of hard work that he has put into becoming a better goaltender,”
said Fairbanks head coach Trevor Stewart. “We are excited that he is
continuing in the long line of Fairbanks goaltenders that have made an
NCAA Division I commitment and hopefully will make an impact at the next
level. With each passing game last season, Kevin got better and his
teammates developed more and more confidence playing in front of him.”
Aldridge is the fourth player on the current 2013-14 Ice Dogs
roster to have secured an NCAA Division I commitment, joining Duggie
Lagrone (Colorado College), Tayler Munson (Alaska-Fairbanks) and Ethan
Somoza (Bemidji State).
