Rivermen add hard nosed Langley product

Press Release

Township of Langley, BC, Monday, August 26, 2013: The Langley Rivermen are pleased to announce the signing of local product Brendan Gulka (1994 born).  Gulka is an energy forward that adds toughness to the Rivermen lineup as well as good skating ability and hockey ‘IQ’.

Rivermen Head Coach, Bobby Henderson, is extremely pleased that Gulka came to camp and beat out other prospects for a spot.

“Brendan came to camp and impressed us so much with his playing ability and toughness; he earned his spot on our roster. It`s very rare you can have someone that is tough with good skating and play making ability. We think he will easily fit in and become a favorite amongst fans.”

Before entering the junior ranks, Gulka played for the Valley West Hawks Major Midget program. Gulka spent the majority of his junior career playing in the Pacific Junior Hockey League with the Port Moody Panthers, and most recently with the Delta Ice Hawks.  He is also a product of Langley`s Tim Preston and Tyler Chambers Impact Hockey Development, and spent his summers training and getting ready to make the step to Junior A hockey.

With the addition of Brendan to the Rivermen roster, four Langley products will start the season with the BCHL club. Joining Gulka in hometown colours are Jakob Reichert, Kevan Kilistoff, and Austen Bietenbeck as well as Valley West Hawks product Darien Craighead who has roots in the Langley-Aldergrove community.

“We are extremely excited to have this many talented local players that have gone out and earned a spot on our roster,” noted Rivermen Director of Operation, Taylor Henderson, “with junior hockey, it’s about earning a spot and all these players have impressed the coaching staff enough to give them the opportunity to represent their community and to show that Langley hockey is on the rise at producing great talented players once again.”
