The
CCHL (Central Canada Hockey League) is proud to be hosting their annual
Fall Showcase at the Bell Sensplex this Labour Day week-end (August 30th - September 2nd).
All 12 teams will be under one roof playing three regular season games
to kick-off the 2013-14 campaign. The league will build on the success
of last season where the Cornwall Colts won the league championship
after the league enjoyed its best parity in years.
Kevin
Abrams, CCHL Commissioner is excited about the upcoming year, “we hope
to continue to be one of the premier Jr. A leagues in the country and
believe the overall depth is even deeper this coming year.” The CCHL
regularly boasts 3-4 teams in the weekly Canadian Junior Hockey League
(CJHL) Top 20 and former Cornwall Colt Michael Pontarelli earned CJHL
Top Player in the inaugural National awards presented last season. It’s
these successes that further illustrate the high caliber of play while
also focusing on player development. The league boasts impressive
results with 18 alumni currently playing in the NHL, 189 competing in
the NCAA and 62 in the CIS.
This
week-end is a popular one, the Sensplex will be busy as scouts and
recruiters will take in the 18 games to initially identify future
talent. Abrams likes the showcase concept, “it’s very important as
everyone can come together in a single venue and get to evaluate our
players, many will get on the radar of NHL, NCAA, CIS and major junior
programs.” The CCHL will also host a subsequent “Hockey Day in Canada”
in Carleton Place (Saturday, February 8th, 2014) when all 12 teams will play one game.
