Press Release
Sydney – The Cape Breton Screaming Eagles
confirmed today that their 2013 first overall draft pick Nicolas Roy
has not reported to their training camp and has stated having no
intentions of doing so.
“We
feel we have exhausted all options in convincing him,” said Screaming
Eagles General Manager & Head Coach Marc-Andre Dumont. “We put
together a very sound academic program for Nicolas. We have answered
each of the family’s concerns. We have also invited the family to visit
Cape Breton but they have declined our invitation.”
The
Screaming Eagles intend to take steps to receive compensation as
outlined in the league rules. The next step will be to notify league
Commissioner Gilles Courteau in writing before September 5th in order to
be eligible to receive the 5th overall pick at the 2014 draft as
compensation for that player not reporting.
The team will not make any further comment on the matter.
