Gamblers defenseman picks St. Lawrence University

 Green Bay Gamblers defenseman Matthew Purmal has committed to play collegiate hockey at St. Lawrence University following his USHL career.

The 19-year-old is playing his first season in the USHL and has appeared in all 12 games for the Gamblers.  He has recorded an assist in each of his last two games, his first two points in the League.  He has posted an even-or-better plus/minus rating in 10 of 12 games played and is tied for the team lead with an overall plus-five rating.

Purmal was selected by Green Bay in Phase Two of the 2013 USHL Draft.  He grew up in close proximity to Green Bay in nearby Merrill, Wisconsin.

The defenseman is joined by Gamblers teammates R.J. Gicewicz and Ryan Lough who are also committed to St. Lawrence University.  Four other current USHL players are committed to the school; Michael Marnell (Des Moines Buccaneers), Jacob Pritchard (Indiana Ice), Kyle Hayton (Sioux City Musketeers), and Nolan Gluchowski (Tri-City Storm).

St. Lawrence University is a member of the ECAC and has 10 USHL alumni on the roster this season; St. Lawrence is a member of the ECAC and has 10 USHL alumni on the roster this season; Eric Sweetman (Youngstown Phantoms), Gavin Bayreuther (Fargo/Cedar Rapids), Woody Hudson (Chicago/Indiana), Drew Smolcynski (Chicago/Indiana), Brian Ward (Tri-City Storm), Chris Martin (Indiana Ice), Gunnar Hughes (Waterloo Black Hawks), Patrick Raley (Chicago Steel), Justin Bruckel (Lincoln/Cedar Rapids), and Alexander Dahl (Youngstown Phantoms).
