Wings forward Baskin makes NCAA Division I commitment

Press Release

The Aberdeen Wings, proud members of the North American Hockey League (NAHL), are pleased to announce the forward Erik Baskin has made a commitment to play NCAA Division I hockey for the Air Force Academy. Air Force are members of the Atlantic Hockey Association (AHA).

Baskin, 20, is in his second year in the NAHL with the Wings. The native of Minnetonka, Minnesota, has eight points (5 goals, 3 assists) in 11 games played so far this season. Baskin (6’3/200) recorded 25 points (15 goals, 10 assists) in 57 games with the Wings last season. His 15 goals during the 2012-13 season ranked 3rd on the Wings roster.

Prior to playing for Aberdeen, Baskin played for Minnetonka High School in Minnesota. During his senior campaign, where he was team captain, he had 54 points in 28 games played.

“We are very excited for Erik and his tremendous opportunity to play hockey at the Air Force Academy,” said Aberdeen head coach Travis Winter. “Erik has earned this opportunity through hard work and perseverance. He has been one of our most improved players since last January and we look forward to helping him continue his development this season.”

Air Force is under the direction of head coach Frank Serratore and the Falcons have won five of the last seven Atlantic Hockey Association Tournament Championships.  No other NCAA Division I team has more NAHL graduates on their roster than Air Force.

Baskin is the third player from this year’s Aberdeen team, and fourth overall, to make a NCAA Division I commitment. He joins teammates Jordan Heller (Bemidji State) and Colin O’Neill (UMASS-Lowell) has those who are committed to play NCAA Division I hockey.
