Flyers' Leblond named Player of Week

Press Release

Chapen Leblond of Winkler Flyers has been named this week’s MJHL player of the week.

The second-year Flyer forward sits atop the MJHL points race with 12 points (3-9). Not a bad start for someone who lists his hockey hero as Jarome Iginla of the Calgary Flames. The Terrace, B.C., native came to the Flyers midway through last season and is dispelling any myth about a sophomore jinx.

Flyers sit second in the Sher-Wood Division with a 3-1 record, two points back of the undefeated Selkirk Steelers.

Runners-up for the MJHL player of the week honours were Brett Chartier of Winnipeg Saints and Brett Wold of Portage Terriers.

Chartier, 19, had a points bonanza last week reflected in 10 assists in six games. Wold, 17, proved deadly while on the powerplay, scoring two goals while the Terriers held the man advantage. Wold has five points (3-2) in four games.
