Hounds announce Captain; Assistants for 2010-11

Press Release

With the Soo Greyhounds home opener less than 24 hours away, Head Coach Denny Lambert confirmed this afternoon the players that will hold the captain and Assistant captains positions for the upcoming 2010-11 season.

BROCK BEUKEBOOM was named team captain for the franchise’s 39th season in the Ontario Hockey League. The 2nd generation Greyhound is set to enter his third season for the Hounds after a very productive off-season. Back in April, the Uxbridge, ON native represented Canada at the IIHF World Under 18 Championship in Belarus and then was selected by the Tampa Bay Lightning in the 3rd Round of June’s NHL Entry Draft.

Joining Beukeboom will be a pair of full-time Assistants while two other players will hold the position while either at home, or on the road.

Being named full-time Assistant Captains were defenseman DYLAN KING AND BRANDON ARCHIBALD. King, who still remains at the tryout camp of the Los Angeles Kings, would be entering his 4th season for the team. The Thessalon, ON native had a steady 2009-10 season on the blueline that saw him put forth a +5 rating for the team to go along 10 pts and 172 PIM.

Archibald meanwhile remains at the camp of the Columbus Blue Jackets at the time of this release. The 18-year old native of Port Huron, Michigan was selected by the Blue Jackets in the 4th round of this past June’s NHL Entry Draft.

The third home Assistant Captain will be Sault Ste. Marie native BRETT THOMPSON. Entering his 4th season in the OHL, and 2nd full season with the Hounds, Thompson led the team with a career high 42 goals one year ago. Thompson’s 65 points was 2nd highest on the team.

Meanwhile the team’s third Assistant Captain on the road will be 2nd-year forward DANIEL CATENACCI. The Newmarket, Ontario native comes off a summer that saw him win a gold medal at the Memorial of Ivan Hlinka U18 tournament and then he would later participate in the select NHL combine.
