'TIPS MAXWELL WHL PLAYER OF THE WEEK

CALGARY, AB. - The WHL Player of the Week is forward Tyler Maxwell of the Everett Silvertips.

Maxwell picked up five points, scoring four goals and one assist to go with a +3 rating, in two games over the WHL Opening Weekend.

On Friday, September 24th, the Silvertips opened their regular season at home hosting their U.S. Division rivals the Seattle Thunderbirds. Maxwell scored twice including the game winner to lift the ‘Tips to a 4-3 win over the Thunderbirds and earn 2nd Star accolades. The following evening, Saturday, September 25th, the Vancouver Giants rolled into Comcast Arena to face the Silvertips. Maxwell had another two goal performance and added an assist in the ‘Tips 5-2 win over the Giants. He was also named the games 1st Star.

Maxwell, a 19-year-old from Manhattan Beach, CA, is in his third full season with the Everett Silvertips. The California stand-out has appeared in 131 career WHL regular season games collecting 120 points (59 goals, 61 assists).

The WHL has also nominated Nathan Lieuwen of the Kootenay Ice for the CHL Goaltender of the Week Award. Lieuwen posted a 1-0-0-0 record this past week with the shut-out, stopping all 25 shots faced for a perfect 0.000 goals-against average and 1.000 save percentage. Lieuwen, a native of Abbotsford, BC, back-stopped the Ice to a 4-0 win over the visiting Calgary Hitmen on Saturday, September 25th and was named the games 3rd Star.
