Trail's Smiley named BCHL POW

Press Release

Trail Smoke Eaters goaltender Kiefer Smiley has been named the British Columbia Hockey League's Player of the Week for the week ending September 26th, the league announced Monday.

Smiley led the Smoke Eaters to a pair of wins on their recent Coastal Conference road swing, beginning with 27 saves and a first star nod in a 3-1 victory over the Surrey Eagles. One night later, the 20-year old turned aside 31 shots and was the third star in a 4-2 win in Langley. Perhaps his best performance came in a loss, as Smiley allowed just one goal on the 44 shots he faced in a 1-0 defeat to the Powell River Kings.

Overall, the Duncan, B.C. product posted a 2-1 record with a 1.33 goals-against average and a .962 save-percentage in three games. Trail's 3-1 record on the four-game trip boosted the team's record to 6-3, good for second in the Interior Conference.

Honourable mentions for this week's award include Langley Chiefs forward Matt Ius, Powell River Kings goaltender Michael Garteig and Trail Smoke Eaters forward Sam Mellor.
