GIANTS ACQUIRE BURNS FROM EDMONTON

Press Release

Vancouver, B.C. – The Vancouver Giants acquired right winger Michael Burns from the Edmonton Oil Kings in exchange for 16-year old centre Landon Robin. The 1991 born Burns is the older brother of current Giants forward Nathan. He has spent his entire 3 year WHL career in Edmonton, picking up 8 goals, 10 assists, and 18 points in 56 games last season.

“Michael will bring a veteran presence to our team,” said Executive Vice President and General Manager Scott Bonner. “There is a ton of upside to his game. He had an impressive resume coming out of minor hockey and under the tutelage of Head Coach Don Hay we expect him to elevate his game and considering he is Nathan’s older brother, it only seems like a natural fit for our team.”

“I am very excited for a fresh start with a great organization,” said Burns, “and to have the opportunity to play with my little brother makes it that much better.”

Burns will arrive in Vancouver on Thursday and is expected to be in the Giants opening night line up when they take on the Chilliwack Bruins Friday night at the Pacific Coliseum. Game time is 7:30pm.

Landon Robin, a native of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, was Vancouver’s first selection in the 7th round of the 2009 WHL bantam draft.
