Hurricanes Name Reddington Captain

Press Release

Lethbridge, AB – Rich Preston, General Manager and Head Coach of the Lethbridge Hurricanes was proud to announce the Hurricanes 2010-11 Captain. Hard nosed defenseman Mike Reddington has been named the 19th Captain in Lethbridge Hurricanes history, following in the footsteps of 2009-10 Captain and graduating player Carter Bancks. Reddington joins the likes of Jamie Pushor, Brent Seabrook and Ben Wright as Canes D-men who have been given the honor of wearing the Captain’s “C”.

“There are three attributes that you look for in every Captain; first you want an individual who will compete to win every night, second you want a player who leads by example both on and off the ice and third you want a leader who is always willing to stand up for his teammates.” said Preston “Mike is a player who exudes all three of these qualities and that is why he is our Captain - He will set the tone for our team.”

Reddington, was acquired by Lethbridge from Spokane along with defenseman Landon Oslanski in exchange for Kyle Beach at the beginning of the 08-09 campaign. In 67 games last season he tallied 26 points (2G, 24A) and a team leading 168 PIMs, while being awarded the Hurricanes Hardest Working player award for 2009-10. In 07-08, his sophomore season, Reddington came into his own leading the Spokane Chiefs with 105 PIMs in 71 games and finishing the season with 10 points (2G, 8A) and an impressive plus 22 plus/minus rating. Ironically, that season was capped with Spokane’s 4-0 sweep of the Lethbridge Hurricanes in the 2008 WHL Championship and the Chief’s capture of the 2008 Memorial Cup.
