Storm First Round Pick Hunter Garlent Commits to Guelph

Press Release

The Guelph Storm Hockey Club announced today that Hunter Garlent, the team's 1st round pick in 2011, has signed an Ontario Hockey League contract with the team.

The Thorold native had 54 goals and 44 assists for 98 points in 57 games playing Minor Midget AAA with the Welland Tigers last season. At 5’8 and 160 pounds, Garlent is a highly skilled forward that will look to contribute to the Storm’s offensive game. Last year with the Tigers he finished first in goals scored and second in overall points. Scoring at a pace of almost two points per game, he was known for his timely and highlight reel goals.

The 16 year old led his team in scoring at the OHL cup with three goals and four points in four games. He also participated in the Canada Winter Games held in Halifax last year scoring twice and recording four points in six games and attended Team Ontario’s Under-17 selection camp earlier this summer.

“Obviously selecting Hunter in the first round of this year’s priority selection was a strong indicator of what we thought of him”, Storm Vice President and GM said. “I can now say, after having spent time with him at our fitness/orientation camp, our golf tournament and as recently as last night watching him on the ice, that I am even more excited about what Hunter will bring to our team and this community over the next 4 years of his junior career. Hunter plays inspired and I truly believe that that inspiration will rub off on his teammates, coaches and fans.”

Garlent will join the rest of the Storm when training camp opens at the Sleeman Centre on August 29th. Tickets for all Storm pre-season and regular season games will go on sale on Monday, August 22nd starting at noon.
