Press Release
The
Salmon Arm SilverBacks are pleased to announce the acquisition of 17
year old forward Riley Hunt from the Vernon Vipers in exchange for
future considerations.
The diminutive forward is listed at
5ft 5” tall and 155lbs but Hunt’s game certainly packs much more punch
that his measurements. The Revelstoke native made his BCHL debut with
the Vipers last season. As a 16 year old he recorded 1 goal and 5
assists in 49 games while earning a scholarship to Harvard University
for the 2014-2015 season.
The addition of Hunt will
provide a spark and some grit at the forward position for the
SilverBacks, “Riley is a player that is going to bring energy and
enthusiasm to the rink with him every day. He is hard to play against
and is not afraid to go into the tough areas” said Mick.
While there have been several players to wear the Vipers and SilverBacks
colours this appears to be the first direct trade between the two arch
rivals. Mick on the historic acquisition, “Riley is a quality young man
and a player we targeted for his work ethic and level of compete. He
will be a leader in our dressing room before his time as a SilverBack is
over. I was not aware that this was the first trade between the two
teams but I guess it is fitting that I make the deal since I have been
on both sides of the rivalry.”
Fans can look forward to
seeing Hunt in the line-up next weekend as the ‘Backs hit the road for 3
games in 3 days on the island; making stops in Victoria, Cowichan and
Nanaimo.
In order to make room for Hunt on the roster forward Alex Holland was suspended after requesting a trade.
The SilverBacks would like to welcome Riley to the organization and
wish Alex the best of luck as he continues to pursue his hockey goals.
