KATUNAR COMMITS TO IRISH

Press Release

PENTICTON, BC–The Penticton Vees Jr. Hockey Club is pleased to announce goaltender Chad Katunar (93) has committed to the University of Notre Dame for next season.

Katunar is in his second season with the Vees and is off to a terrific start. Through five games, Katunar has amassed a 5-0-0 record with 1.72 goals-against average and a .943 save-percentage, including one shutout. Katunar leads the BCHL in wins and sits in the top five in both goals-against average and save-percentage.

Last season, Katunar appeared in 20 games with the Vees, compiling at tidy 13-2 record with one shutout. Katunar made a name for himself in the BCHL post-season after Mike Garteig went down with injury. In 15 playoff games, Katunar compiled a 12-2-0-1 record, with goals-against average 1.73 and a .938 save-percentage, to go along with one shutout; backstopping the Vees to their second Fred Page Cup title in five years.

Vees Head Coach & GM Fred Harbinson, says Katunar’s scholarship was well earned, “Chad competes extremely hard day in and day out; he showed great patience throughout last season and excelled when called upon.  Chad has now solidified himself as one of the top goaltenders in Jr. ‘A’ hockey.”

The Irish are playing their final season in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association before they move to Hockey East in 2013-14. The Irish made their first NCAA Tournament Appearance in 2004 and have since made four more appearances, including making the Frozen Four Final in 2008. Notre Dame has won two CCHA Regular Season titles (2006-07, 2008-09) and two CCHA conference Championships (2006-07, 2008-09).
