Hirsche Named Cougars Captain.

Press Release The Prince George Cougars are pleased to announce that forward Brock Hirsche has been named team captain for the 2012-2013 season. Hirsche, a 20-year-old from Lethbridge, Alberta has spent his entire WHL career with the Prince George Cougars. “To be named captain of the Prince George Cougars is surreal. I’m so happy and so blessed,” said Hirsche who had previously served as an alternate captain for two seasons. “I think we’ve got a really exciting team with lots of young talent, and some veterans who are going to help lead the way too. I think this team can do a lot of great things this season.” In 143 career games, Hirsche has scored 22 goals and 54 points along with 89 penalty minutes. Hirsche’s 2011-2012 season was limited to just eight games due to injury, but he still had a profound impact on his team. The Cougars management and coaching staff both agreed that Hirsche needed to be around the team, so he served as an assistant coach for the final two months of the regular season. “We polled our players and unanimously it was Brock Hirsche,” said Prince George Cougars Head Coach Dean Clark. “He’s been a real student of the game, and really understands the direction that I want to take the team. When you have that understanding in your dressing room it makes the message getting through that much better.” In addition to naming Brock Hirsche captain, the Cougars also announced that Troy Bourke, Dallas Ehrhardt and Daniel Gibb will serve as alternate captains in 2012-2013. Troy Bourke (1994, Onoway, AB) is entering his third season with the Prince George Cougars. He led the Cougars in scoring with 18 goals and 56 points in 2011-2012 where he also served as an alternate captain. Dallas Ehrhardt (1992, Calgary, AB) was acquired this summer during a WHL Bantam Draft day trade with the Moose Jaw Warriors. In 147 career games, Ehrhardt has managed six goals, 47 points and 176 penalty minutes. Daniel Gibb (1992, Prince George, BC) has played in 194 career games, all with the Prince George Cougars. Gibb has managed three goals and 18 career points along with 169 penalty minutes. Gibb was also an alternate captain last season. (Nathan can be reached at nathanfournier@mainehockeyjournal.com)
