Blues’ Stoykewych commits to Western Michigan

Press Release

Winnipeg Blues Defenseman Paul Stoykewych has committed to the University of Western Michigan for next season.

The 6-foot,  200 pounder from Winnipeg tallied 24 points in 57 games as a rookie last season for the Blues. In three games this season, Stoykewych has tallied a goal and an assist.

“This is a tremendous accomplishment for Paul,” says Blues’ GM/Head Coach Don McGillivray. “The organization is very proud of him. He’s demonstrated that he’s one of the top players in our league and Western Michigan has recognized that.”

Earlier this week, NHL Central Scouting ranked Stoykewych as a B-skater and a potential second or third round pick in the 2013 NHL draft in June.

Western Michigan is a Division 1 school in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) and were recently ranked 11th in a pre season poll done by USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine.
