Phantoms Name Captains for 2012-13

Press Release

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio– The Youngstown Phantoms have named their captains for 2012-13 season, head coach Anthony Noreen announced Friday ahead of the team’s season opener with the Omaha Lancers.

Centers Austin Cangelosi and Alexander Dahl will serve as co-captains while left wing JT Stenglein and right wing Sam Anas will act as assistant captains for the Phantoms. All four were named captains after a vote from their teammates and the team coaching staff.

“We make it extremely clear to our players just how important and how big of an honor it is to wear any letter for this team,” Noreen said. “We explained to them that they needed to pick guys who represent this program way they all want it represented and I think they did a tremendous job in picking Austin and Alexander, along with Sam and JT.”

Cangelosi, an Estero, Fla., native is entering his second season with the Phantoms. The Boston College commit finished second in scoring for Youngstown last season with 29 goals, 30 assists and 59 points in 53 games.

“Austin, a lot like [former captain] Mike Ambrosia last year, is a guy who leads by example,” Noreen said. “His work ethic is relentless in all areas, whether it’s school, practice, the weight room or games. He does everything the right way.

Dahl, an Eau Claire, Wis., native is also entering his second season with the team. He played in all but one game in his rookie season, putting up three goals and six assists and nine points. His brother, Jefferson, was a leader for the Phantoms during their inaugural 2009-10 season as well.

“Alexander is also a guy who leads by example, but he’s definitely a more vocal and outgoing guy,” Noreen said. “He plays our system to a tee, helps out our young guys. Obviously his brother was a leader when he was here and Alex is no different. You can see that he was raised the right way – you can really say that about all of our captains.”
