Press Release
St. Michael's Buzzers forward Troy Josephs (photo credit - Mike Ivall/OJHL Images) has confirmed his commitment to join the Clarkson University Golden Knights beginning with the 2013 or 2014 ECAC season.
The 6', 179 lbs. native of Whitby, Ontario is a product of the Whitby
Wildcats minor hockey program and he made the jump to junior hockey,
playing seven games as a 16-year old with the nearby Pickering Panthers,
making an immediate impact by notching four goals and five points
during his stint. His success as a midget translated into being drafted
by the Belleville Bulls in the 2010 OHL Priority Selection in the 15th
round, 283rd overall.
With his future in mind, Josephs mind was set on earning a scholarship
and joined the St. Michael's Buzzers last season, where as a rookie he
would post respectable numbers, including 11 goals and 24 points, while
helping the club to a first place finish in the South Division
standings. This season, counted on as one of the club's leaders,
Josephs made a move to centre and has not disappointed, currently
sitting second on the club with five goals and seventh overall in
scoring with nine points.
"I like the move to centre, it allows me to pick up some extra speed
down low and take off on the rush. I am extremely happy to be committed
to Clarkson. I have heard nothing but great things about the program and
coach Casey Jones. I am following some Buzzers that have had
outstanding careers at Clarkson. I want to live up to those
expectations," said Josephs.
Buzzers General Manager, Rich Ricci added, "Troy was a project last
year. An outstanding athlete who had some raw skill and a lot of
upside. He started well for us last year but suffered a serious
mid-season injury that set him back. He came back this year, won our
Combine Testing comfortably and had a completely different demeanor on
the ice. Driven to say the least. A skilled guy with a real nasty
streak and edge. We moved him to centre with the hope of capitalizing
on his skill set. He hasn't disappointed as he has drawn a lot of early
attention. I'm happy for him and his parents. He follows a very
similarly styled Buzzer to Clarkson from our 2008 team, Louke Oakley."
