USHL Honors - Week 18

 The United States Hockey League today announced the CCM and Reebok player awards for the 18th week of the 2013-14 USHL regular season.

Winners include Peter Krieger of the Waterloo Black Hawks and Andrew Poturalski of the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders, recognized as co-recipients of CCM Forward of the Week; Tommy Parran of the Youngstown Phantoms, chosen as CCM Defenseman of the Week; and Kyle Hayton of the Sioux City Musketeers and Jacob Nehama of the Lincoln Stars, tabbed as co-recipients of Reebok Goaltender of the Week.

Peter Krieger, F, Waterloo Black Hawks: The Oakdale, Minnesota native recorded four points (2g, 2a), helping Waterloo to a pair of victories and extend their win streak to 11 games.  Friday night, the 20-year-old equaled a season high with three points, scoring a goal and assisting on two others in a 4-3 win over the Youngstown Phantoms.  The next night, he lit the lamp for the third time in as many games, helping the Hawks to a 2-1 win over Team USA and giving head coach P.K. O’Handley his record-setting 530th USHL win.  Committed to the University of Alaska-Fairbanks, Krieger is the team scoring leader with 34 points (12g, 22a) in 33 games, which is currently tied for 10th in the League.

Andrew Poturalski, F, Cedar Rapids RoughRiders:  Committed to the University of New Hampshire, the recently turned 20-year-old recorded five assists and a plus-three rating in a pair of weekend wins.  He dished out a pair of assists and finished with a game-high plus-two rating in Friday’s 4-3 win over the Green Bay Gamblers.  The next night against the Chicago Steel, he handed out three more assists, including on the game-winner, in a 4-1 victory.  A native of Williamsville, New York, Poturalski leads the Riders in scoring with 34 points (11g, 23a) through 33 games, which is tied for 10th in the League.  His 23 assists are tied for the sixth most in the USHL.

Tommy Parran, D, Youngstown Phantoms: The 19-year-old recorded his first, second, and third career USHL goals in two games played over the weekend, more than doubling his season point total.  Friday night, he scored twice in a 4-2 loss to Waterloo.  The Shaker Heights, Ohio native found the back of the net again with a shorthanded tally on Saturday in a 7-4 loss to the Muskegon Lumberjacks.  Committed to Brown University and skating in his first full USHL season, Parran has five points (3g, 2a) in 27 games played this season.

Kyle Hayton G, Sioux City Musketeers: The Faribault, Minnesota native picked up his first career USHL shutout on Friday, stopping all 32 shots he faced in a 1-0 overtime win over the Sioux Falls Stampede.  The victory was the 30th of his USHL career.  The 19-year-old St. Lawrence University commit is currently tied for the League lead with a .926 save percentage.  His 17 wins are the third most in the USHL and he is fourth amongst goaltenders with a 2.30 goals-against average.

Jacob Nehama, G, Lincoln Stars: The 18-year-old from Allen, Texas earned his first USHL shutout, stopping all 26 shots he saw in Saturday’s 4-0 win over the rival Omaha Lancers.  It was his third consecutive victory which has helped the Stars earn points in five straight contests (4-0-1).  Nehama has recorded a 1.67 GAA and a .942 SV% during his three-game win streak.  He made his USHL debut in December and has an overall record of 3-1-0 with a 2.57 GAA and .920 SV%.
