Black Hawks forward chooses Alabama-Huntsville

 The Waterloo Black Hawks announced that forward Brandon Salerno has committed to play Division I college hockey at the University of Alabama-Huntsville following his USHL career.

Salerno has chipped in five points (3g, 2a) in 31 games for the first-place Black Hawks this season.  He started the season by scoring the game-winning goal in the 3-2 victory over the Chicago Steel in the season opener for Waterloo on September 21st.  It is the second season in the USHL for the 18-year-old native of Toronto, Ontario after he put up 21 points (6g, 15a) in 59 games for Waterloo last year.  He was also part of the Black Hawks team that captured a silver medal at the 2012 Junior Club World Cup in Omsk, Russia.

Dubuque Fighting Saints forward Max McHugh is also committed to the University of Alabama-Huntsville.  The school is a new member of the WCHA and has five USHL alumni on the roster this season; Frank Misuraca (Lincoln Stars), Brandon Carlson (Dubuque/Lincoln/Fargo/Des Moines), Alex Carpenter (Tri-City/Chicago), Cody Marooney (Sioux City Musketeers), and C.J. Groh (Waterloo Black Hawks).  In addition, head coach Mike Corbett both played in the USHL for the Madison Capitols (1990-92) and served on the coaching staff for the Sioux Falls Stampede in 2001-02.
