Ice goaltender commits to Cornell University

 Indiana Ice goaltender Hayden Stewart has committed to play college hockey at Cornell University following his USHL career.

The 19-year-old has been stellar for the Ice since being acquired in January, posting a perfect 6-0-0 record which included back-to-back shutouts against the Youngstown Phantoms on February 8th and 9th.  He has not allowed more than one goal in any of his six starts with the Ice, posting a 0.67 GAA and .971 SV% over that span.  Stewart began the season with the Dubuque Fighting Saints and compiled a 6-6-1 record over 13 appearances with the club.  His overall 2.30 goals-against-average in 19 games this season is the third best mark among USHL goaltenders.

The native of Rockford, Illinois first broke into the USHL during the 2011-12 season and totaled a 4-7-1 record with the Muskegon Lumberjacks.  He played one more game with the Lumberjacks last season, stopping 23 shots to earn the victory.  Over 32 games in the USHL, he has compiled a 17-13-2 record with three shutouts.

Stewart is joined by Ice teammate Dwyer Tschantz who is also committed to Cornell.  Five other current USHL players have intentions to play college hockey at the school; Cam Hackett (Green Bay Gamblers), Gavin Stoick (Green Bay Gamblers), Anthony Angello (Omaha Lancers), Jared Fiegl (Team USA), and Ryan Bliss (Team USA).

Cornell University is a member of the ECAC and has 12 USHL alumni on the roster this season; Joakim Ryan (Dubuque Fighting Saints), Christian Hilbrich (Indiana Ice), Eric Freschi (Dubuque Fighting Saints), John McCarron (Lincoln Stars), Brian Ferlin (Indiana Ice), Armand de Swardt (Chicago Steel), Teemu Titinen (Lincoln Stars), Clint Lewis (Team USA), Cole Bardreau (Team USA), Jacob MacDonald (Waterloo Black Hawks), Jeff Kubiak(Muskegon/Chicago), and Andy Iles (Team USA).
