Gamblers Rookie Commits to Ohio State University

The Green Bay Gamblers announced the rookie forward Matthew Weis has committed to play collegiate hockey at Ohio State University following his USHL career.

Weis has collected 10 points (4g, 6a) and 34 penalty minutes while posting a plus-six rating in 17 games since joining the Gamblers in late December. The 16-year-old had a four-point night (2g, 2a) in just his third USHL game, a 10-1 win vs. Chicago on New Year’s Eve, which started a five-game point streak for the native of Madison, New Jersey.

Weis joins Gamblers teammate Nicholas Schilkey who is also committed to play hockey at Ohio State University, along with five other current USHL players – Anthony Greco (Des Moines Buccaneers), Kevin Irwin (Des Moines Buccaneers), Tyler Lundey (Dubuque Fighting Saints), Cliff Watson (Sioux City Musketeers), and Collin Olson (Team USA).

Ohio State University is a member of the CCHA and has 11 USHL alumni on the roster for the Buckeyes; Brendan Arniel (Tri-City Storm), Chris Crane (Green Bay Gamblers), Alex Lippincott (Fargo Force), Brandon Martell (Fargo/Tri-City), Darik Angeli (Tri-City/Chicago/Sioux City), Clark Cristofoli (Sioux Falls Stampede), Matt Johnson (Tri-City/Waterloo), Max McCormick (Sioux City Musketeers), Al McLean (Omaha Lancers), Nick Oddo (Omaha/Cedar Rapids), and Ryan Dzingel (Lincoln Stars). In addition, Ohio State University head coach Mark Osiecki coached in the USHL with the Green Bay Gamblers for seven seasons (1997-2004) and led the team to the Clark Cup title in 2000.
