Wolves’ Sgarbossa OHL Player of the Week

Toronto, ON – The Ontario Hockey League today announced that Michael Sgarbossa of the Sudbury Wolves is the OHL Player of the Week for the week ending February 19 after scoring eight points in three games with four goals and four assists.

Sgarbossa began his week scoring a goal and two assists as second star of a 5-3 win over the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds last Wednesday night before contributing an assist despite a 5-2 loss to the Niagara IceDogs on Friday. He finished the week on Sunday matching a season-high with four points, recording his second hat-trick of the season and adding an assist as first star of a 5-4 overtime loss to the Brampton Battalion.

Sgarbossa, a 19-year-old from Campbellville, ON, is playing in his fourth OHL season. The San Jose Sharks prospect is currently enjoying a 13-game point-streak and is tied for second in OHL scoring with a career-high 40 goals along with 40 assists for 80 points in 54 games.

Also considered for the award this week was Cody McNaughton of the Guelph Storm and Andrew Yogan of the Peterborough Petes who each recorded six points in two games. McNaughton had four goals and two assists, while Yogan scored three times with three assists. In goal, Mark Visentin of the Niagara IceDogs went 2-0-0-0 with a goals-against-average of 1.00 and save percentage of .960 recording his tenth shutout of the season to establish a new OHL single season record.
