Majors’ Brandon Maxwell Named OHL Player of the Week

Toronto, ON – The Ontario Hockey League today announced that goaltender Brandon Maxwell of the Mississauga St. Michael’s Majors is the OHL Player of the Week for the week ending February 26 after posting a 4-0-0-0 record including a shutout victory with a goals-against-average of 1.00 and save percentage of .974.

Maxwell made a total of 147 saves and helped the Majors win four straight games for the first time since October. His first win of the week came last Monday with 29 saves in a 3-1 Family Day victory over the Sudbury Wolves where he was named the game’s third star. Maxwell then had back-to-back first star performances against top Eastern Conference opponents including a 43-save effort in a 3-2 win over the first place Niagara IceDogs before making 38 saves on Saturday in a 2-1 win over the fourth place Barrie Colts. He finished his week recording his third shutout of the season making 37 saves including 21 in the third period to preserve a 6-0 victory over the Erie Otters receiving second star honours.

Maxwell, a 20-year-old from Cambridge, ON, is playing in his third OHL season. Since being acquired by the Majors from the Sting midway through the season he has posted an 11-8-0-1 record with two shutouts and a goals-against-average of 2.76 and save percentage of .926.

Also considered for the award this week was Andrew Agozzino of the Niagara IceDogs who had eight assists in three games, while Ivan Telegin of the Barrie Colts scored seven goals in four games.
