Lakers' Jordan Larson named SIJHL rookie of the year

Press Release

THUNDER BAY, Ont. – The Superior International Junior Hockey League announced Monday that Jordan Larson of the Fort Frances Lakers has been named the SIJHL’s rookie of the year for the 2011-12 season.

The 16-year-old Fort Frances product was a near-unanimous choice for the honour earning the highest point total of any player in the award voting process, including six of seven first place votes and one second, in balloting done by the seven-member clubs that comprise the SIJHL.

As the third youngest player in the league, Larson currently leads all rookies in scoring with 68 points in 53 games, which leaves him fifth overall in SIJHL offensive production.

His 34 goals so far this season are the third most of any player in the league while the Lakers are 29-5-4 in games in which he records at least one point.

Larson came out on top over fellow rookie of the year finalists Jeremy Johnson of the Wisconsin Wilderness and Hunter Scott of the Duluth Clydesdales.

The Lakers’ forward becomes the fourth player from Fort Frances to earn the award in the 11-year history of the SIJHL joining the likes of Mitch Cain, who is currently in his freshman season at Bemidji State University of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association.
