Tanner Milliron of the Wisconsin Wilderness named top goaltender

Press Release

THUNDER BAY, Ont. – The Superior International Junior Hockey League announced Wednesday that Tanner Milliron of the Wisconsin Wilderness has been named the SIJHL’s top goaltender award recipient for the 2011-12 season.

The 20-year-old native of New Richmond, Wis. earned the accolades over fellow finalists Marc Nother of the Thunder Bay North Stars and Tyler Ampe of the Fort Frances Lakers.

In 33 games this season the six-foot-two-inch, 190-pound Milliron presently leads all SIJHL goalkeepers in multiple categories, including wins (28), goals-against average (1.55), save percentage (.937) and shutouts (7).

His average, save mark and shutout numbers not only pace the SIJHL, but they are also the best of any puck stopper in the entire 133-team Canadian Junior Hockey League.

Former SIJHL top goaltender honour winners include Carter Hutton (Rockford, AHL/UMass-Lowell, Hockey East), Ryan Faragher (St. Cloud St., WCHA), Drew Strandberg (Wisconsin-Superior, NCHA) and John McLean (Gustavus Aldophus, MIAC)

It marks the second straight year a Wilderness netminder has garnered the honour as McLean was recognized last season.
