Sooth Named Captain of Dubuque Fighting Saints

Press Release

The Dubuque Fighting Saints announced that forward Shane Sooth has been named team captain for the 2012-13 season. Sooth becomes the third captain in the team’s three-year history.

“Shane embodies how we want our players to develop and mature on and off the ice while they are Fighting Saints,” said Dubuque Head Coach and General Manager Jim Montgomery. “The attitude, discipline, and leadership he has continued to develop over the end of last year and this summer makes him an easy choice. His team first attitude has always been top notch and he now possesses the intangibles to be a great captain because of how he has grown as a young man.”

Sooth returns for his third season with the Fighting Saints and is expected to provide a scoring punch and strong veteran leadership. Sooth was an alternate captain on last year’s squad, and in 119 career games with Dubuque, Sooth has scored 19 goals, and added 68 assists, for 87 points. Sooth was a member of Dubuque’s 2010-11 Clark Cup Championship team, and has been a strong performer in the postseason, scoring 15 points in 16 career playoff games. The 6-foot-1 forward also played 10 games in the USHL for Sioux City during the 2009-10 season.

“I’m very grateful that this honor was given to me, and hopefully I can help lead this team to another championship,” said Sooth. “Leadership wise, my main focus is going to be team first. No matter if you are a goal scorer, a shutdown defenseman, or a playmaker – everything has to be team first. That’s what I care about and what is hopefully going to take us far. I’m excited for this year and how together we are. It reminds me a lot of the first year. Every moment we’ve had has been positive so far.”

The Canyon Country, California native is committed to play collegiate hockey at Northern Michigan University following his USHL career.
