Flames sign 2013 first round pick Emile Poirier

CALGARY, AB – The Calgary Flames announced today that they have signed their 2013 first round pick (selected 22nd overall) Emile Poirier to a three year entry level contract.

A native of Montreal, Quebec, Poirier is currently in his third season with the Gatineau Olympiques of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. In 36 games this season, the 6’1”, 184 lbs right winger has 24 goals and 29 assists for 53 points, has accumulated 89 penalty minutes with a +18 rating. Poirier ranks seventh overall in the QMJHL scoring race.

In his first training camp with the Flames this past September, Poirier appeared in three pre-season games recording a goal and an assist for two points and had a +2 rating. Poirier was Calgary’s second pick in the 1st round (22nd overall) in the 2013 NHL Draft.

Contract terms: Three-year entry level contract with an NHL base salary of $832,500 with a signing bonus of $92,500 each year and an AHL salary of $70,000 per year. The contract has an Average Annual Value of $925,000
