Otters' Brown is OHL Player of the Week

Toronto, ON – The Ontario Hockey League today announced that for the second time this season Toronto Maple Leafs prospect and OHL Top Scorer Connor Brown of the Erie Otters is the OHL Player of the Week for the week ending January 12 recording 12 points in three games including four goals and eight assists with a plus-minus rating of plus-5.

Brown becomes the first repeat winner of the award this season helping lead the first place Otters to three straight wins last week giving the club a 34-7-2-0 record in the Midwest Division.  He finished the week recording a career-high six points as part of a 9-0 win over the Windsor Spitfires on Sunday afternoon.  He received second star honours in that contest scoring twice and adding four assists including one helper on each of Dane Fox’s three goals helping him become the first 50-goal scorer in the league this season.  Brown also had back-to-back three-point games on the road to start the week including a goal and two assists as second star of a 6-5 win over the Barrie Colts on Thursday, followed by another goal and two assists on Friday night as third star of a 4-0 win over the Owen Sound Attack.

Brown, hails from Etobicoke, ON, and turns 20-years-old on Tuesday.  The Otters’ captain is playing in his third OHL season in Erie and currently leads the league in scoring with 88 points including 28 goals and 60 assists in 43 games played.  Signed to an entry-level contract by the Maple Leafs, Brown was selected in the sixth round of the 2012 NHL Draft.

Also considered for the award this week were first overall OHL picks Connor McDavid of the Otters and Aaron Ekblad of the Barrie Colts.  McDavid scored three goals with five assists for eight points in three games, while Ekblad scored four goals and two assists for six points in two games highlighted by a four-goal and one assist game against the Kingston Frontenacs.  In goal, Columbus Blue Jackets prospect Oscar Dansk of the Otters posted a 3-0-0-0 record with two shutout victories along with a goals-against-average of 0.39 and a save percentage of .987.
