Thunderbirds’ Haines named Gongshow Gear player of the month for December

Press Release

SUDBURY – The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League announced today that Darcy Haines of the Soo Thunderbirds has been named the Gongshow Gear Inc. player of the month for December.

In seven games during the final month of 2013 the 20-year-old native of Val Caron, Ont., amassed a NOJHL-best 17 points on seven goals and 10 assists helping the Thunderbirds come away victorious in each of them and head into the New Year riding a 12-game winning streak.

Two of his tallies in December were game-winners and he also set-up another marker that was the difference maker in a contest.

In 13 outings with Sault Ste. Marie since last season’s NOJHL most valuable player was acquired in deal with the Pembroke Lumber Kings (CCHL) Haines has only been held off the score sheet once accumulating 28 points on 10 goals and 18 helpers in the process for the league-leading and fourth-ranked club in the entire 128-team Canadian Junior Hockey League.

Haines will be recognized on-ice prior to an upcoming home game with a gift pack courtesy of Gongshow Gear Inc., the NOJHL’s official lifestyle hockey apparel partner.

Also earning consideration for December player of the month honours were forwards Anthony Miller of the Thunderbirds and Brennen Dubchak of the Espanola Rivermen.
