Knights’ Houser Named Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week

Press Release

Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that Michael Houser of the London Knights is the Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week for the week ending September 25 after recording a 2-0-0-0 record including a shutout victory with a goals-against-average of 0.48 and save percentage of .988.

Houser backstopped the Knights to two straight wins to open the 2011-12 regular season beginning with an 8-0 shutout victory on home ice last Friday night. He made 36 saves and was named second star of the game earning his second career shutout. On Sunday afternoon Houser claimed first star honours for his 45-save effort in a 2-1 shootout win over the Guelph Storm. Despite being outshot, Houser kept his club in the game making 17 saves in the third period and stopping all three Storm shooters to secure the win.

Houser, who recently turned 19-years-old, is from Wexford, Pennsylvania, and is playing in his third OHL season with the Knights. Prior to returning to the Knights this season he attended Philadelphia Flyers Training Camp as a Free Agent invite.

Also considered for the award this week was Drew Owsley of the Prince George Cougars and Simon Giroux of the Drummondville Voltigeurs who each recorded shutout wins on Saturday. Owsley made 32 saves as first star in a 1-0 win over the Kamloops Blazers, while Giroux stopped 30 shots as second star of a 6-0 win over the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada.
