Miller named captain of new-look Chiefs

Press Release

For you trivia fans out there, if you're asked in the future, 'Who was the first captain of the Chilliwack Chiefs when they came back to the BCHL in 2011?' remember this name: Tyler Miller.

The Chiefs unveiled their new captain Tuesday. The former Langley Chief who was brought in by head coach Harvey Smyl during the summer is a rugged defenceman who will turn 20 on Jan. 1.

Miller was an assistant captain last season under Smyl in Langley. The 6-foot-3, 210-pound blueliner is thrilled to be given the chance to be a leader in Chilliwack.

"It is an honor to be named captain of the Chiefs," said the Prince George product. "A lot of successful people have worn the 'C' for the Chiefs."

The assistant duties were awarded to local product Josh Hansen and a pair of players who suited up for Quesnel last season in 20-year-old forward Michael Spring and 19-year-old defenseman David Thompson.

Smyl likes the group of leaders he has assembled.

"Tyler has the ability to be very vocal while our assistants are a mixture of personalities who will lead by example and speak up when needed.”
